Across the street from bksk’s widely commended 25 bond, a new modern landmark is taking shape. what was a
long-dormant 14-story superstructure originally intended
to be a hotel is being remade into a more contextually sensitive and art-inspired residential loft building.

Bksk is also directing the interior design of the building’s
common spaces and individual units. residences are
composed of serene, gallery-like spaces. kitchens are
disguised as a volume within a volume. an airy sculptural
staircase is suspended within the double-height main room.
secondary spaces, such as vestibules and powder rooms, are carved from the building’s core and rendered as inky-black volumes, heightening the contrast between inside and out.

"the bond street trees were famous. there were two in front
of each house, and in 1857 they were so tall and dense that from the roadway only the stoops of the houses could be seen. tuckerman, in his biography of dr. francis, says that the lamps, gleaming amid the leaves, reminded one of
paris."

from valentine’s manual of the city, published in 1917

A VESSEL FOR ART

Artistry

Art is engrained in the DNA of Bond Street and in the architecture of 22 Bond. Outside the gatehouse is a site-specific commission by Roy Nachum. Pieces by Nachum are designed as part of the public spaces throughout the building. Crowning the exterior is Federico Uribe's "SuperFly," an artistic experience for the building as well as the neighborhood.

Art by Roy Nachum Gorilla king is a series of sculptures of gorilla heads with gold Braille embossed crowns covering the gorilla's eyes or face. The crown represents man's blindness caused by displaced values and desire, while the gorilla represents the animal nature in human nature.

Art by Roy Nachum A swirling mass of gold aluminum crowns, a work by Jerusalem-born artist Roy Nachum (b.1979), will take pride of place inside 22 Bond's entry gatehouse. The crown is a recurring device throughout Nachum's works. It represents mans blindness caused by displaced values and desire. Visible through a large vitrine along Bond Street, the piece will add to the street's unique history of urban artwork.

22 Bond is a limited edition of six ultra-exclusive residences framing a seductive urban garden. Embodying authentic luxury and rugged sophistication, the architecture of 22 Bond speaks to the neighborhood's industrial past. Vestiges of an 18th century townhouse and exposed beams from a past development are part of 22 Bond's architectural experience.
